How much do wedding flowers cost in New England?

What couples spend on wedding flowers, by guest count and season, what actually moves the price, and how to make a modest budget go further.

Couples in the Northeast spent $3,300 on wedding flowers on average, according to The Knot Real Weddings Study, which surveyed nearly 11,000 couples. The national average is $2,800. The spread is wide, though: a quarter of couples spend $900 or less, half spend $1,900 or less, and a quarter spend $4,800 or more. Florists often suggest setting aside about 10% of the total wedding budget for flowers.

What does the guest count do to the price?

More guests means more tables, and more tables means more centerpieces. That is why the flower budget climbs with the guest list:

1 to 50$1,600
51 to 100$2,400
101 or more$3,300

Does the season matter?

Less than you might think for the total: couples spent between $2,700 and $2,900 on average in every quarter of the year. What the season changes is which flowers are local and at their best. See what is in season in New England.

What actually moves the price

  • How many pieces, and how big. Every centerpiece, aisle arrangement and arch is its own piece of work. An arch alone can run from a few hundred dollars to several thousand, depending on how much of it is covered.
  • Flowers or greenery. A stem of flowers almost always costs more than a stem of greens, so arrangements with more foliage cost less.
  • Flowers out of season. Flowers shipped from far away cost more, and their price moves with the weather where they grow.
  • Setup and distance. A venue far from the shop, or an installation built on site, adds hours of work.

How to make a modest budget go further

  • Spend on what people see up close: the bouquets, the boutonnières and the head table.
  • Choose flowers that are in season the week of your wedding.
  • Ask for more greenery and fewer, fuller centerpieces, or bud vases with a few stems each.
  • Ask whether the ceremony arrangements can move to the reception, so they work twice.

What a wedding costs with us

We do not have a wedding price list. Every wedding is quoted after a conversation, in writing, with the flowers named and the pieces counted, and there is no deposit until you have seen that number. Tell us your date, your guest count and the budget you have in mind, and we will tell you plainly what it buys. See how we work with couples, or call the shop at (978) 369-2404.
